Alone taught me 
how to be 
a friend of 
the would not 
of the world 
it taught me 
how to be 
without any other 
or fear or
doubt or worry 
alone taught me 
what others did 
that I didn’t 
understand or know 
that all along
alone is the 
path to happiness

for God’s sake

at the airport

in the car 
now say it 
about us too
you might not 
want to or
mean to but 
you have to 
because if you

Swoosh and beep
and other noises
outside my window 
greets the day
a din a
cacophony of sounds 
mechanical sighs and 
screams of business 
no butterflies or
birds or wind
nothing of nature 
just man and 
his machines taking 
one from somewhere 
and to another 
people as bots

I’ve said goodbye 
to more people 
than hello shedding 
friends like skin
and now in
this my aloneness 
I finally see
horns or skin
costumes or agendas
places and things 
and even friends 
we do outgrow 
sometimes with sadness 
we leave them 
behind in attic
or basement or 
town or time
