At last finally
When I close
My eyes it’s
Simply black and
Peaceful no more
Smiling memories or
Laughter I’m alone
With my empty
Mind no longer
Thinking about you
For now not
Only are you
Gone but you’re
Gone from me
At last finally
When I close
My eyes it’s
Simply black and
Peaceful no more
Smiling memories or
Laughter I’m alone
With my empty
Mind no longer
Thinking about you
For now not
Only are you
Gone but you’re
Gone from me
This morning starts
Crisp and cool
Like that first
Bite of Braeburn
Apples plucked from
Refrigerators gray skies
Like aggie and
Indian and purie
Marbles with which
Once I played
Cars buzz about
Filled with hurried
Shoppers sipping seasonal
Coffees and teas
And you of
Course beside me
Warm and sleepy
Yawning and smiling
Heaven on earth
I awoke in
A field of
Wildflowers lavender honeysuckle
Peony and bluebell
Each different yet
Each the same
The same because
To my eye
They simply surround
Me like old
Friends different because
Like old friends
Each brings its
Own distinct color
Fragrance and beauty
Surrounded by nature’s
Possibilities do I
Pick or absorb
Breathing in I
Decide to snap
One free just
For me now
Come home with
Me and let
Me enjoy you
Where I can
Always see you
Where you belong
Beside me forever
I so enjoy
The hour before
Dawn when night
Is deeply dark
And thick with
Sleep when all
Except the truly
Courageous remain bedded
Those strong with
Hope take arms
And slay the
Night into morning
Watching it fall
From the sky
Like a dragon
With each chat
Each new secret
I plant seeds
Of possibility that
I water with
Affection and interest
Compassion and kindness
Watching my field
Of acquaintances grow
Into a forest
Of friends amongst
Which I hide
When the world
Eventually frightens me
Because it does
And they do
They always do
