Holidays

Like a child

Mesmerized by his

Bounty of gifts

Stacked beneath the

Tree or like

The guests intoxicated

By the wafting

Aromas of turkey

Stuffing yams and

Pie billowing from

Warm kitchens dreaming

Of pants busting

Meals I am

Thinking of you

On this particularly

Cold Carolina morning

Present (to You)

I sit between

My past and

Future some would

Say between the

Jaws of a

Vice ahhhh but

Me I feel

Nestled like a

Hatchling under the

Comfort of its

Mother staring out

To the dawn

And wondering if

Today will be

The first day

I will fly

Ghosts (to Bean)

I was haunted

By dreams of

Long lost loved

Ones of times

Way past I

Awoke wondering where

I was uncertain

Of who I

Am until I

Remembered you and

Knew that I’m

Exactly where I

Need to be

They are simply

Ghosts of heartbreak

Music ( with bean and I)

And so I

Grafted myself to

You and you

Small broken flower

Less and somewhere

In between I

Knew that you

Would never grow

Without me music

OldFriends (to You)

The best chili

Is the chili

Prepared one day

And ate the

Next there’s something

About waiting that

Doubles its flavor

It steeps thickens

And deepens color

Parts just disappear

Until they land

Yet once again

And that mmmmm

That’s you too

My old friends
