glowing orange 
then yellow 
and fleshy 
pink as 
its shadow 
quietly tells 
to finally 
white as
eyes land 
on things 
belonging to 
both that
earlier were 
night’s imagination 

My high school 
was a family 
born of families 
child after child 
brother after sister 
we all knew 
each other’s parents 
it wasn’t knowing 
or even pride
due to size
being the smallest 
school in town 
it was respect
