Wood

New is how
I’d describe him
like a fresh
plank of wood
soft to hand
luxurious to touch
whispering its wishes
to become something
yearning to be
anything more than
wood but wood
is where its
beauty lies in
its blemishes its
knots and the
veins of life
that run its
length creating a
quiet rich river

Bubbles

New is how
I’d describe him
like that first
refreshing sip of
tonic water crisp
a sour start
and sweet finish
bubbles that dance
on the tongue
that rise and
float in glass
gentle to watch
as they pop
disappear and another
rises and swims
taking its place

Gum

New is how
I’d describe him
like a piece
of chewing gum
recently unwrapped and
popped into mmouth
flavorful and sweet
then slowly digested
resulting in bubble
snap and pop
a playful ease
a new taste
curious and juicy
the kind that
ends in pocket
to be enjoyed
again and again
over and over

Life

I live
a quiet
simple and
private life
preferring to
remember than
to make
for making
requires effort
whereas remembering
nary none

Clouds

Today clouds
mirror you
laying on
the beach
flat beneath
they reflect
the land
and you
flat beneath
absorbing same
but both
billowing above
as they
rise higher
to infinity
