is to have friends
for friends unlike you
causes dissonance and distraction
and dissonance causes discomfort
oh it is okay
to sometimes swim
with the ducks but
when you are a
swan only other swans
can show you how
go find your gaggle
your herd your flock
even though your intention
of leading by example
is too often admirable
more often than not
those who are anchors

yesterday I thought
tomorrow I imagine
these are the
ingredients of life
life well lived
triumphs and tragedies
are our lives
checks and balances
one cannot have
one without the
other and a
successful life is
had when at
the end there’s
an eventual balance
setting soul free
to go home
wherever that is

I have and always
will embrace the idea
that life is to
be lived that the
present is far richer
than the past and
definitely the soil of
the future I believe
that today is more
important than tomorrow and
that the past is
history I implore you
remember yesterday imagine tomorrow

The low eastern sun
is now painting downtown
the softest of orange
as though the buildings
have they themselves been
dipped into a puddle
of sherbet and sprinkled
with morning as though

Some things do return
and some things don’t
it’s in that gap
that itty bitty place
where missing often happens
and this missing is
by far bigger than
the time spent together
I guess that there’s
something to be said
in just how we

better or for worse
