It is possible to
rebuild one’s life but
starting from scratch is
easier rebuilding is not
the same as repairing
To repair you must
first find what is
broken and either plug
paint or plaster either
replace refund or refinish
but you are constantly
reminded that what is
now isn’t as strong
as it was before
Whereas rebuilding one’s life
requires leaving the hole
which you have dug
before perhaps too close
to the volatility of
water or near volcanoes
prone to explosive eruptions
behind behind with everything
near dear and familiar
including your own past
and start digging anew
The only real way
to rebuild one’s life
is to allow and
require the past to
belong where it rightfully
does and always will
back there behind you

Experience teaches one life
We all do remain
like children or puppies
uncertain of things until
we learn that this
is hot or that
is sharp and sex
isn’t required for love
nor is love required
for sex we learn
what hurts long before
we remember what doesn’t
But in the end
what experience teaches one
about life is that
without it we’re rocks
learning nothing more than
being in the way
Dream
Why do we dream
our dreams be they
day or night maybe
day dreams are what
we’ve always wanted to
have whereas night dreams
remind us of what
we had and lost
Maybe day dreams are
our future and night
dreams are our past
But dream we do
and dream we must
for without our dreams
where are we going
where have we been
Chasing
Why do we hope
to find the things
unfindable why do we
doggedly pursue our mirages
chasing things that aren’t
really there except in
our minds what do
we hope to find
that we haven’t already
found we are all
such foolhardy creatures forgetting
that the tail that
we have been chasing
is and always has
been attached to us
right from the start
Cities
I have lived everywhere
And I have learned
some things about life
Mainly that cities look
alike except for the
terrain and the backdrops
which surround them like
someone dropped a big
dollop of concrete and
glass into a bowl
that nature has created
What makes a place
different are the people
living there I know
that we behave like
bees bobbing busily about
going here going there
but each time one
alights upon me like
I’m a prairie wildflower
I change I gain
and I lose things
that I take and
give away sending a
bit of myself with
them to the next
flower or even home
