Cities

I have lived everywhere
And I have learned
some things about life
Mainly that cities look
alike except for the
terrain and the backdrops
which surround them like
someone dropped a big
dollop of concrete and
glass into a bowl
that nature has created
What makes a place
different are the people
living there I know
that we behave like
bees bobbing busily about
going here going there
but each time one
alights upon me like
I’m a prairie wildflower
I change I gain
and I lose things
that I take and
give away sending a
bit of myself with
them to the next
flower or even home

That

There are those that
They that everywhere thinking
that this and that
especially that over there
or that over here
means anything often everything
When in reality that
never really means anything
and often no more
than that ever does

ShhhAndShush

Shhh and shush
are very different
One only consoles
the other dismisses
Be the shhh
never the shush
Be the shoulder
Not the back
For the shoulder
Says come here
Whereas the back
says go away
Our world definitely
needs more shoulders
and less backs

WhimpersWhispers

And I have found
that in the cacophony
that our lives are
or have eventually become
that the whimper and
the whisper are those
that are listened to
closely most of all
Never ever worry about
being seen or even
heard for those who
wish to listen will
hear the scraping of
willow branches in wind
or the tink of
snowflakes or the admission
of love in a
busy Berlin kafe house
and even the heartbeat
of someone through tears
No need to roar
when the world itself
is on fire simply
whisper your own words

FirstAndForever

When I think of
Paris I think of
you sitting there across
the garden and amidst
the rhododendrons and hydrangeas
sipping on an aperitif
You looked so confident
minding your own business
But I being American
I interjected I interrupted
your solace by asking
would you join me
I meant for dinner
You meant for life
So here we are
