The sky in Hawaii
is streaked with blue
a tear in the overcast
Diamond Head ‘s coat
is turning green to brown
calico
Waikiki sits below me
and bubbles with life
toy cars on spaghetti
travel across the city
an ocean reaches to
horizon there they
dissolve like a watercolor

is like being
alone in the darkness
the blackness stretches
like hours when I’m
lonely no one around
me I feel like the
dandelion not plucked
the dark yearning
of companionship
like the family dog
awaiting its master
I long for you like I long
for your letters

It’s sunny here
heaven filled with
paparazzi
blue sky and ocean
blend at the horizon
underwater blue
trucks roll past
angry giants
making earth shake
like an eruption
underfoot
a checkerboard
of roof tops dot
the ground beneath

plumes of green pink
white trees cover
like a colorful quilt

Last night’s moon
hidden behind elderly
beards flaked into
our room last night
you asleep away from
me I watched the lunar
dance across the
rippling tide of your
chest and stomach I
move closer hand on
stomach like a couple
of old dogs and kissing
your eyes and throat
you growl in your sleep
a lion cub and roll towards
me like a back landed
turtle you place your leg
over my hip and whisper
