Confession

After almost a year

Of back and forth

Of steeplechase and jockeying

We finally did meet

And drank from each

Others cup feeling warmth

I had even before

You took your time

We laugh about it

I’m your very first

You’re not my last

But where we are

Is a comfortable place

I often wonder why

It is always hardest

To tell the truth

When two hearts are

NotYouYeahYou

It wasn’t like I

Thought that it’d be

Much less than fanfare

More like gaining weight

Rather than it thundering

It just quietly called

A hey you there

Not you yeah you

Want to be mine

And finally finally after

The fear of not

Of maybe never forever

You picked me to

Be on your team

Whoopsie

Some would probably say

That I’ve lost it

But here’s the funny

Thing about losing things

We can only lose

Things that we had

Since I never had

You you weren’t mine

To lose so what

If anything were you

A near miss a

Maybe and maybe even

A whoopsie close enough

To maim but not

Close enough to lose

JustSomeSilly (don’t like this)

Oh you’re a poet

I’m asked at parties

You must be ro-MAN-tic

Now who said THAT

By ro-MAN-tic do you

Mean affectionate yes I’m

That I am affectionate

Are you a LUUU-ver

By LUUU-ver do you

Mean have I loved

Yes I have I

Have loved many times

But by romantic do

You mean that I

Ponder to understand the

Depths of loves despair

Of lonely overly imbued

Scantily clad cocktail guests

That are as desperate

As a camel searching

For an oasis from

Which to sate themselves

Only to read about

It here tomorrow morning

Then yes sweetheart I’m

A poet and romantic

*and she staggers off

Leaf

I knew a leaf

Once a magnificent leaf

I watched him bud

And yawn and shiver

On my favorite tree

He whistled in spring

And sunned in summer

He took great pride

In keeping raindrops off

Of hiding children beneath

But then Autumn came

And he grew tired

He lost his looks

And his boyish verve

One day while walking

I heard him ask

What’s happening to me

I looked up saying

It’s time to go

But you’ll be back

In the hearts of

Those who remember you
