Lordy even a lightning
bug knows what it
wants as it bobs
and bounces around my
garden glowing and calling
so why’s it so
hard for people to
know maybe this mass
of gray matter that
we laud above all
of the other beasts
is not nearly as
wowing as we’ve been
led to believe oh
let everyone just turn
into little lightning bugs
filling gardens with light
for those little candles
shed more light on
how to live life
than reasonable humans do

JustOne
I just wonder if
each of us was
given but just one
of almost practically everything
would any of us
ever have any complaints
one snowflake one raindrop
one birthday one tear
one love one heartbreak
one day one moment
I sometimes think that
we being used to
having many forget or
perhaps avoid the joy
of having just one
one snowflake upon tongue
one raindrop upon cheek
one birthday to celebrate
one tear to cry
one love to have
one heart to break
when one thinks about
this this one idea
one must also include
one birth and one death
and all the many
more ones in between
LostGone
Often when I lose
something I think about
where I might’ve left
it not really considering
it lost rather misplaced
after remembering I do
return to where I’d
abandoned it confident that
there I’d find it
Sometimes it is there
oftentimes it is not
Unlike most people I
halt my search then
accepting that what’s lost
is gone and belongs
to someone or someplace
else no longer mine
I guess what I’m
trying to say is
please don’t come back
to me my love
stay where you are
there amongst the lost
once gone is enough
OnBeing
Being
Being who you are
not who you want
admitting that this way
is less than that
understanding that over there
is an uphill climb
whereas this is flat
very few ever do
heroes and adventurers alike
have never been born
they have made themselves
into what you see
by accepting their being
Being
ThatSound
And it was then
that I knew that
we were not finished
because of what reminded
me of you it
was the quietest whisper
something that without silence
would have gone missing
I was sitting alone
and drinking my coffee
and without a thought
drew my thumb down
across the lip of
the cup and the
sound at first faint
but when repeated reminded
me of the sound
of your front door
bell that very first
time I ever rang
