There are two cars
which always arrive separately
one then the other
into the dark parking
lot next to me
one driver gets out
and climbs into the
other for an hour
doing I imagine that
very same thing with
clandestine driver number two

Why does last
night seem so
far away now
as though I
was loaded into
a rocket ship
during my sleep
and waking up
to find the
world but a
shrinking blue marble
slowly disappearing behind
me I know
because of you
next to me
a stranger laying
this new world
heretofore newly discovered
and wholly unknown

I feel like a
runner who jumped the
gun not realizing my
gaffe until half of
the race was run
only having to trot
back with much chagrin
nervous excitement you know
but also aware that

hesitate even a half

I awoke to the
moon disappearing ever so
slowly into the folds
of the soft pillows
sleeping next to me
I landed there softly
with fingers quietly touching
the celestial landscape the
high ridges of brow
slipping down into the
soundly sleeping crescent eyes
and down into my
lunula’s hollow of mouth
when at once turning
slowly away from me
my moon which shone
has now turned new
