I was set
to die four
times but didn’t
instead I was
given other chances
to do things
my story is
not that unusual
what might be
though is laughter
for once one
has had talks
with the reaper
little else that
this world tosses
your way can
ever be taken
as remotely serious

I will
go on
whether merrily
or sad
neither which
is yours
to say
for your
part in
this nonsensical
senseless nonsense
is over
the rest
is up
to me

I don’t care
it’s just that
it’s this thing
that’s called caring
has caused me
my own misery
I can barely
swim by myself
how can I
swim with you
a choice then
to be made
do I go
under with you
or swim to
save only myself
letting you choose
one or another
to the deep
or the shallow

are never others
but only yourself
pointing to others
only ever causes
envy jealousy shame
rather look within
compare your experiences
with one another
evaluate your expectations
against the same
let people be
themselves for they
are on their
own journey doing
their very best
just like you
