I have learned 
that neither distance 
nor time have 
anything to do 
with the intersection 
of two paths
that souls connect 
when paths cross 
and only the 
Universe and not 
the constructs of 
man have bearing 
on the same 

One thinks 
the heart
rumbles about
inside like 
tourists on
choppy seas
it doesn’t 
but rather 
bird dogging 
it runs
ahead catching 
the scent 
of something 
carried by 
the wind 
when found 
it does 
nothing but 
point for 
point is
all a
heart can 
do handing
it off 
to mind
and body 
to decide 

I have met
a young man 
who despite youth
despises the transactional 
nature of things 
nowadays including love 
how has this 
need for immediacy
replaced the need 
for someone’s forever 
he recently asked 
replying I said 
most I think 
have no wish
to build foundations 
but rather fill
the crumbling mortar 
with anything usable 
be it body
or even waste 
to fend off
the surging bloodlust 
of today’s desire 

To laugh
at what

is funny 
is easy

to laugh
