Funny how 
we think 
of the 
past as
always better 
when we
don’t like 
the present 
we seem 
to always 
be looking 
somewhere else 
besides where 
we are 
for happiness 
and really 
what is 
so bad 
at simply
being happy 
being here 

Most everything 
remains the 
property of
the past
except for 
the present 
that belongs 
to us 
why save 
what you 
can never 
spend in
a place 
that closed
the moment 
it opened 
spend now 
here now 

Most diamonds 
are found 
deep underground 
where pressure 
and time 
turn the 
very thing 
we are 
into beauty 
just like 
I suppose 
those same 
things do 
to us 
aren’t we
all just 
beautiful precious 
sparkly things 

We all have 
that one thing 
which undermines all 
else rendering us 
helpless for me
it’s two actually 
a cardboard box 
requiring flaps folded 
and one tucked 
and my heart 
why it prefers 
to dangle upon 
my sleeve exposed 
to everyone confuses
me I guess 
that I’m no
good at closing 
things up and 
keeping them safe 

Imagine if
you had 
but one 
moment upon 
which to
spend eternity 
and that
moment has 
already passed 
that’s the 
tiny difference 
between mind
and present 
don’t waste 
time in
the past 
spend all 
of it 
right now
