Deserters

What I know 
that I don’t 
need now or
likely ever did 
in my life 
are the deserters 
those who embolden 
and embrace anarchy 
be it righteous 
or the pursuit 
of one’s happiness 
despite the odds 
and when the 
first volley fired
turn and run 
the opposite direction 
I will stand 
stay and fight 
bringing my ideas
to light and 
life or death
