Now I know 
what love can 
be having been 
absent from it
love isn’t sex
love is knowledge 
paired with understanding 
and compassion adding 
in loads and 
loads of laughter 
stirred in with 
glances glowing and 
gentle giggles and 
this is what 
I now know 
love to be 

And we looked 
at art and 
each other and 
and had lunch 
and talked about 
life with each 
other and laughed 
and grew even 
closer to each 
other we’d always 
been very close 
but today after 
yesterday tomorrow 
looks better still 
years time and 
distance means nothing 

My heart is full 
but that’s not where
its beauty is found 
where its beauty lies 
is in its cracks 
for that is heartbreak
and only heartbreak can 
give a patina to 
and also strength to 
a heart that’s loved 

Love is a
fools pursuit it
makes one vulnerable 
and it hurts 
that is love 
that is past
love that is 
present does none 
of those love 
that is present 
is simply there
absent of any 
memory of any 
love ever before 

It’s the center 
not the extreme 
that brings comfort 
like a pillow 
the fringe is
simply decoration meant 
to entice but 
the center is 
where one rests 
his head is 
the strongest part
