Whittled

When I moved here
I left everything behind
and only packed expectation
such a fools errand
I should have bought
the refrigerator and bed
but because being me
I marched through gates
already declaring my victory
unaware that this foe
was mightier than me
time wears everything down
before it ever builds
up and even I
have been slowly whittled
to this now sharp
stick that I am
you do indeed become
that where you are
and where I am
is better than before
for I now live
in the land humility
