Some wear masks 
which appear veils
thin distractions meant
to allure yet
keep at distance 
just one more
obstacle one more 
hurdle one more 
layer of a
lifetime of layers 
I wonder if 
what we saw
when we were 
younger helped create 
these things called 
who we are 
and not who 
we were supposed 
to be so 
long long ago
