Once a long 
time ago I 
went to Hell
to retrieve a 
soul and bring 
it safely home 
a friend helped 
the most startling 
about Hell wasn’t 
the fire but
its silent anguish 
millions upon millions 
of open mouths 
screaming in despair 
and my disbelief 
in hearing nothing
