This favorite time

As day yawns

Smiling grapefruit red

Apricot and sunflower

Bleeding into tidepool

Blue midnight black

Mockingbirds mocking and

Grouse flying startled

Everything awakens slowly

From its slumber

Stretching like languid

Windowsill warmed cats

Even I bat

Sleep from eyes

And sip slowly

My steaming coffee

Until like dawn

It cools into
